Iced or hot, teas have great health benefits
It’s well known that certain kinds of teas can help to boost your immune system. With Omicron running roughshod over the United States right now, I thought it might be a good idea to discuss natural immune boosters that come from tea. Many consumers already drink tea for it’s help with your overall immune system support, however, I’m willing to bet many of you don’t know the right teas to choose for this purpose. There are numerous teas that help with medicinal qualities, but finding the right tea for you to boost your immune system can be confusing. While tea is full of health benefits, it isn’t a replacement for professional medical treatment if you think you might be sick. You should always seek the help of a medical professional if you think you’re suffering from a serious illness.
Here is a handy list that might be helpful:
- Turmeric Teas – Turmeric is an orange colored bitter tasting root which is related to Ginger. Turmeric contains a compound known as curcumin, which contains antimicrobial properties and can help to ward off illness.
- Ginger Teas – Like Turmeric, Ginger also contains antimicrobial properties. It is a sweet tasting, slightly spicy root that can help boost your immune system.
- Licorice Teas – Used in Chinese herbal medicine for hundreds of years, this root adds a subtle sweetness to any tea it is added to. However, don’t over do it. Keep it to 2-3 cups a day of the Licorice root tea.
- Peppermint Teas – Studies have shown that Peppermint has antimicrobial and antiviral properties that can help ward off an illness. It’s also high in antioxidants and is helpful with other health related issues.
- Chamomile Teas - Chamomile has been used as a component of herbal medicine for centuries to help boost the immune system, soothe symptoms of the common cold, and aid in rest and relaxation. Chamomile may contain antimicrobial properties, however the research is still out on that one. Either way, a good tea to drink to help boost the immune system.
- Lemongrass Teas – Recent studies have shown that Lemongrass Tea has antibacterial properties, is high in antioxidants and can help improve inflammation.
- Hibiscus Teas – Teas that contain Hibiscus contain antibacterial and antimicrobial properties that can help ward off illness and promote overall health.
- Black Tea – This is the most common tea you will find in the marketplace. Most convenience stores and restaurants will have Black Tea as their main tea. Black Tea contains catechins with antiviral properties. Black Tea is also very high in antioxidants and great to drink for your overall health.
- Green Tea - Studies show that the catechins present in green tea can help to ward off the flu and common cold. Green tea comes from the same plant as does Black Tea, but it’s prepared differently to keep its green color.
