There is a long-standing truth in the world of organizations: talent wins! More than vision, strategy, innovation, advertising, or even technology, it is ultimately people that establish organizational success.
To recruit the best talent, we focus on creating a positive culture within our organization. This means promoting an environment of respect, enjoyment, and collaboration. Promoting a positive culture will not only attract top talent but will also retain current employees.
We value all ninety employees around us by celebrating wins, sharing credit, and building each other up. One thing we do to make employees feel valued is to provide recognition. We have a peer-to-peer recognition program, which was developed in Q2 of 2024, to celebrate successful projects together. All employees are encouraged to recognize a peer when they see someone going above and beyond. Individuals receive immediate recognition with free vending coupons and a chance to win $500.00 at the end of the year. Doug Hewitt, Production Manager, recently recognized Melanie Way, Team Lead, for shoveling off sidewalks numerous times. Gary Rollins, Conversion Operator, recognized Michael Snyder, Technician, for helping with a roll of film when the jack moved. We also recognize employee work anniversaries to thank employees for each year they choose Plascon with a gift card.
We all work hard, and it’s the sense of humor that we share that makes it fun to work together. No one benefits from 24/7 “seriousness”, and no one wants to work for a company that takes itself way too seriously. Life’s short. Get things done but make them fun. If a company culture is all work and no play, then wave goodbye to retention. We often send GIFs to one another just to keep people smiling. You will see employees’ heads bob to the beats of the music that is playing within production areas. You will see potlucks organized by employees across the entire organization or gatherings for employees and family members. I still remember my first human resources jobs where the Company required formal attire each day with a Company Logo shirt. Where is the fun with that? It brought laughter when an employee (shout out to Cindi Stein) who was dressed up like a bird for Halloween, paraded around the offices.
