Holiday Tea Recipes

Here at Plascon, the makers of Saftea® Iced Tea Urn Liners, we like to think we know a little bit about teas.  As we enter the holiday season, we wanted to share a few tea recipes to put you in a festive mood!

With the holidays and cooler temps around the corner, its always nice to have a warm mug of tea to start the day or to unwind with in the evening. Here are three of my favorite tea recipes to share with friends and family and to keep the cold at bay.

Fresh Ginger Root Tea

Ginger is native to Asia and is the flowering plant of the Zingiberaceae family. Its root adds flavor to many types of cuisine and is also an ancient herbal remedy for a host of ailments. Adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and raw honey will certainly take the edge of the common cold and help to sooth a persistent cough.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons raw ginger root (about 3 inches of ginger root)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons raw honey (to taste)

Directions:

  1. Peel the ginger root with a peeler
  2. Cut the ginger into ¼” slices.
  3. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil, add ginger and allow to boil for 10 minutes.
  4. Strain the tea to remove the ginger.
  5. Add fresh lemon juice and raw honey to taste.

Lavender Earl Grey Latte

Earl Grey is a classic black tea with bright, spicy notes of orange and rich black tea leaves.

Lavender, a member of the mint family, has been used for centuries as a versatile, flavoring in both sweet and savory foods. English lavenders are the best varieties for culinary purposes, and both the buds and leaves can be used fresh or dried.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 Earl Grey Tea Bag
  • 1/2 tsp lavender flowers
  • Milk of choice
  • Honey to taste
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil; remove from heat.
  2. Steep Earl Grey tea and lavender together to your preferred strength, at least 5 minutes.
  3. Strain into a mug and stir in 4 oz. of warmed milk.
  4. Add vanilla extract and honey to taste.

Cranberry Apple Zinger

With a hint of mint and fruit, this tart and tangy drink is full of antioxidants and electrolytes.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 Celestial Seasonings Cranberry Apple Zinger Tea Bag
  • Splash of orange juice
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • a few cloves

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a boil; remove from heat.
  2. Add Cranberry Apple Zinger tea bag, cloves and cinnamon stick to water and set aside to steep until the tea is to your preferred strength, at least 5 minutes.
  3. Remove and discard cloves, cinnamon stick, and tea bags.
  4. Stir in splash of orange juice and lemon juice to taste.
